a magical sea kayaking experience in Bantry Bay
There’s nothing like watching the sun set over Bantry Bay and doing so from one of our kayaks is a memorable West Cork experience. Our Kayak at Sunset tour is one of our guided kayaking trips and it is an unforgettable thing to do during your stay in Bantry.
We will spend approx. 2 hours exploring Bantry Bay before sunset. At first, we will navigate the inner harbour of Bantry Bay and then head in the direction of the tip of Whiddy Island, before we drift with tide to enjoy the sunset in all it's glory.
On our sunset kayaking tour we will enjoy the many birdlife or wildlife that inhabit these waters. Local sea birds include, Seagulls, Cormorants, Grey Heron, Oystercatchers, Terns and Egrets. It’s not uncommon to encounter dolphin, harbour porpoise, grey or common seals on our trips and we will pause and enjoy their beauty if we spot them.
If we are really lucky, we may be treated to the wonder of bioluminescence in the bay, when the glowing blue phosphorescence phenomenon lights up the water.
What to Expect
We will depart the Railway Pier approx two hours before the sun sets and spend an hour kayaking in the inner harbour of beautiful Bantry Bay.
Once we have decided on our best vantage point from which to watch the sun set behind the Caha and Shehy Mountains, we will let the kayaks drift in the calm waters of Bantry Bay to enjoy this magical moment. Cameras at the ready!

Kayak to Whiddy Island
Hire a kayak for time in Bantry Bay and end your trip on Whiddy Island where we will collect your kayak and you can get the ferry back to Bantry.

Tour Details
Each Kayak at Sunset Tour lasts two hours and a minimum of 5 guests are required to confirm the tour.
The tour is also weather/sea conditions permitting, but it will be confirmed to all guests either in the morning of the expected day of departure and/or a few hours before departure, depending on the weather. Your safety is paramount so we will only confirm the trip if it is safe to do so. Please ensure you submit your travelling contact details when booking.
